Condition: Cleft Palate Repair
Mary Ann, Aviana's devoted mother, always hoped her daughter would be spared the cleft condition she had endured herself. During a six-month ultrasound, those hopes were shattered when they learned that Aviana would share the same condition. Overwhelmed with emotion, Mary Ann eventually accepted the reality, knowing there was little they could do but prepare and remain strong for their daughter.
Upon Aviana's birth, her family was filled with worry because they were already familiar with the challenges of caring for a child with a cleft palate, particularly the difficulties in feeding and the increased risk of illness. The early days were not easy, but they surrounded Aviana with love and care, determined to nurture her and help her thrive despite the obstacles.
Mary Ann often found herself in tears at the thought of Aviana experiencing bullying, something she had personally endured while growing up. The family initially planned for Aviana to undergo surgery during the 2024 medical mission, but the procedure had to be postponed when Aviana became ill. Hoping for another opportunity, they sought assistance from Abounding in Love.
In June 2024, Aviana successfully underwent her cleft lip surgery through Operation Rainbow Australia in partnership with the Kiwanis Club of Cebu. In August 2025, after successfully passing the screening process, she underwent a follow-up cleft palate surgery during another Operation Rainbow Australia medical mission. The family had hoped that this would be Aviana's final surgery. However, sometime after the surgery had totally healed, her mother noticed that there was still a small opening in Aviana's palate, raising concerns that she may still require additional surgery.
With renewed hope, Aviana will return for screening during this year's Operation Rainbow Australia medical mission in August. The family remains hopeful that she will qualify for surgery once again and receive the additional treatment she needs.

Please be aware that the children enrolled in medical missions always have the possibility of changing. It is not uncommon for children to be deemed ineligible for surgery due to other health issues. If this occurs with a child you are sponsoring, we will substitute another child in their place and notify you via email.
