Condition: Cleft Palate
At 9 months old, Shane was first introduced to Abounding In Love after being born with a unilateral complete cleft lip and palate. Despite being farmers with limited resources, her family cared for her and was confused by the absence of any cleft characteristics in their family history.
Riza, Shane's mother, discovered Abounding In Love through a barangay health worker and reached out for assistance. The organization provided free surgeries for cleft repair, along with help for accommodation and transportation. Shane had her cleft lip surgery in February 2023 and her cleft palate surgery in March 2024, thanks to the support of Abounding In Love, Rotaplast International Medical Mission, and the Rotary Club of Cebu Port Centre.
Unfortunately, the surgery for her palate did not go as planned, and Riza decided to delay further repairs because she had recently welcomed her 6th child.Now, Riza feels prepared, and Shane is set for the upcoming March mission to repair her palate. They remain optimistic about her eligibility for the operation.
Shane Ashley's parents feel immense gratitude for the steadfast support they received throughout the difficult years she has faced. Please be aware that the children enrolled medical missions always have the possibility of changing. It is not uncommon for children to be deemed ineligible for surgery due to other health issues. If this occurs with a child you are sponsoring, we will substitute another child in their place and notify you via email.
