Steph Zachary
Age: 9 Months
Condition: Cleft Lip
Steph Zachary was born with a unilateral complete cleft condition, making him the first child of Mylene and Nel Anthony. His mother is a full-time housewife, while his father works as a Marketing Assistant. The parents were initially shocked by the diagnosis but soon learned that cleft conditions run in the family. As first-time parents, they encountered numerous challenges, particularly with feeding, as Steph could not breastfeed and required a specialized bottle. Despite these obstacles, they gained valuable insights and emphasized the importance of acceptance, unconditional love, and patience in supporting a child with a cleft condition.
Like many parents, they worried about the challenges Steph might face in the future, especially the possibility of being judged or excluded by others. However, they were grateful to discover that instead of being rejected, Steph was warmly embraced by their relatives and even by their neighbors. Although Steph is still too young to understand people's opinions, his parents admitted that hurtful comments from others can still be painful for them as parents.
The family believes that surgery will significantly enhance Steph's quality of life by boosting his confidence and reducing the risk of bullying. They hope for his physical recovery and his development into a kind, respectful, and successful individual. They learned about his condition after his birth and are thankful they didn't find out during pregnancy to avoid emotional stress. They were referred to the Abounding in Love foundation by a relative whose child benefited from their support, and they reached out to seek help for Steph.
With renewed hope, Steph has been lined up for the upcoming Operation Rainbow Australia Medical Mission this August. His family is praying that he will successfully pass the screening and begin his cleft surgery journey. They remain hopeful that this opportunity will give Steph the chance to grow up healthy, confident, and ready to embrace a future filled with endless possibilities.
